PATTAYA – September 23, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 2:10 p.m., a report of two groups of teenagers fighting with knives in the Jomtien area was received by Pol. Maj. Col. Kowit Sawatmongkol, suppression inspector, Muang Pattaya police station.

He rushed to the scene after asking for supporting civil defense volunteers and officers in patrolling cars. The fight was occurring in front of the Welcome hotel at Jomtien beach, moo 12, Nong Prue, Banglamung.

Arriving at the scene, police saw the two groups of teens fighting with knives. But when the combatants saw the police, they ran away and scattered in many directions.

However, police chased a white Mitsubishi Titan pickup truck minibus, registration code Hor Nor 9226 Bangkok, and stopped the bus just before Dong Tarl corner. Police discovered the occupants were students from a Bangkok school, all under age 18, but they were not in uniform.

A total of 15 boys and 3 girls were on the minibus. Police seized as evidence 4 long knives, 4 long iron rods, and a baseball bat hidden in the cab of the minibus.

Police questioned a teen from the group, “Mr. Dew”(alias), age 16. He told police that the previous day was a weekend day, so he and his friends made arrangements to go out at night in Pattaya. They had hidden knives and other weapons in the truck to protect themselves, in case any incidents occurred.

Mr. Dew said he and his friends were at Jomtien beach, enjoying the sand and sea, and were getting ready to return to Bangkok. But suddenly 10 teenagers came along, and one of them hit him with someone’s belt. Then another teen punched him in the face. So his friends ran to bring the knives to stab his attackers, and then the police came.

Police also questioned the driver of the minibus, Mr.Theerapat Dorkpikul, age 29. He said that the teenagers had hired him for 2,700 baht to drive them from Bangkok to Pattaya. He did not know about the quarrel, but admitted that the baseball bat was his.

After questioning all of them, the police took their photographs to record as evidence, and then contacted their parents to take them back home.
