PATTAYA – December 21, 2012; at 5 p.m., a report of a foreigner trying to rape a woman in a soi Buakhao apartment was received by Pol. Maj. Seksan Reuvate, Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province. He went to check the scene with Pol. Capt. Somchai Chaikananukul, Deputy Inspector; and the traffic police team and inspector police.

The incident occurred in a 4thfloor room of Pandia Apartments on Soi Buakhao. A clothing shop occupies the first floor of the 4-story building and rental rooms are on the upper floors.

Police arrived at the scene and discovered the female victim, who is deaf. She was identified as Ms. Saowaros Sunteuy age 33, of Lopburi province. She was standing to wait for the police with torn clothes and was still frightened.

She led the police to room number 405, where police found and restrained the accused suspect sitting on the bed, identified as Mr. Christian Leiter, age 37, nationality Austrian.

Police questioned the apartment manager, Mr. Krissana Nara-int age 26, who told the police that Mr. Leiter and Ms. Saowaros had been living together in the room for more than 5 months. But they later separated, and Ms. Saowaros moved out 2 months ago.

But she still always returned to visit Mr. Leiter, and they always had a quarrel. Ms. Saowaros tried to tell the police in sign language and wrote a note explaining that she is an ex-girlfriend of Mr. Leiter, but they had ended their relationship.

Prior to the incident, Ms. Saowaros was eating rice in a restaurant and accidentally encountered Mr. Leiter, who persuaded her to come to his room. But as they were sitting in his room, Mr. Leiter asked to have sex with her.

However, Ms. Saowaros didn’t consent, because he kept having sex with her after they had broken up. She said he repeatedly broke his agreement to start paying her for sex, and always refused to pay her afterwards when she asked for money.

So this time she refused, but then she was beaten and squeezed around her neck by Mr. Leiter, who then tried to rape her. But Ms. Saowaros fought against him until her clothes were torn, and she ran to ask for assistance from people to notify the police.

However, the police initially restrained Mr. Leiter not for sexual assault charges, for overstaying his visa. As for Ms. Saowaros’ accusations of attempted violent rape, police are still unsure whether Mr. Leiter really did what he was accused of. So the police sent Ms. Saowaros to a doctor to check her body for injuries.

Police will also investigate further and talk to more witnesses before reaching any conclusions.
