Pattaya, 23rd October 2010 [Pattaya Daily News] At 4.30 am. while Police Major Suppharuek U-phrai (Pattaya Police Chief Inspector) and his team were patrolling the area of South Pattaya 3rd Road at the fourth intersection, they observed a dispute between a foreigner and Thai motorists which led them to investigate the incident.

On questioning of the Thai Mr. Phornthep Soraya (35) from Phayoa stated that he was riding his white-black Honda Wave motorbike along 3rd Road towards South Pattaya, when a Toyota Fortuner driven by a foreigner who appeared to be seriously intoxicated, swerved suddenly catching his motorbikes’ right mirror, causing him to lose control and almost colliding with a taxi car driving along side.

The driver of the Fortuner failed to stop at the scene which led both the taxi driver and the motorcyclist to follow. They pulled alongside of the Fortuner, knocking on the window and asking the driver to stop without success until they approached the fourth intersection on South Pattaya, 3rd Road where Mr. Soraya drove across the car on his motorbike before jumping off.

The foreigner left his vehicle whilst yelling at the pursuers and denying all accusations, as the police pulled up. Mr. Soraya pointed out the damage caused by the Fortuna to the police with the taxi driver as his witness to the entire incident.

The foreign driver approximately 40-45 years of age, identified himself as an Australian National to the police, but did not offer his documents or his name. He was in a highly intoxicated state, cursing the Police Major with foul language in front of several witnesses.

Subsequently all those involved were escorted to the Pattaya Police Station for investigation. The Australian refused to co-operate with the officers and continued struggling with them sticking his middle finger up to them and the reporters.

The Australian offender was finally restrained by Police Investigator, Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan and charged with dangerous driving, colliding with another vehicle, failure to stop after an accident and acting disrespectfully towards an officer on duty.

The offender was finally breathalyzed with a result of 152 mg of alcohol, well over the legal limit and was charged with driving whilst intoxicated and will be sent for further judicial proceedings.
