Police retrieved clothes belonging to the suspects, which they wore on the day of the attack, as well as, a rock.

As previously reported, on 13 February 2008, at 5am, a British man had been attacked by a group of youths, on Soi Buakow, in front of the Siri Guesthouse, near Oscar Karaoke, Moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung.

The two arrested men told police that they worked as glassworkers. Mr. Yuttapum worked for Mr. Sompong. On the night of the incident, the men, about ten people in all, were drinking at a minibus bar, which was parked in the car park of the Interpol Hotel on Soi Diana Inn, across from Soi Buakow. The victim, Mr. Parker, and his friend were also drinking at the same location. The suspects were having a conversation about football and mentioned that Liverpool was their favorite team. Mr. Parker overheard their conversation, and approached the suspects. He indicated, in very loud English, that Liverpool was not a good team. Mr. Parker also was holding a sponge, which he squeezed onto Mr. Sompong’s head. Then, for good measure, Mr. Parker allegedly rubbed the sponge on Mr. Sompong’s head, as well. There were many witnesses to what was transpiring. According to Mr. Sompong, he did not retaliate at that time because he as sitting in his friend’s bar. Many customers (both locals and tourists) witnessed the situation. A foreign man told Mr. Parker to leave them alone and go back to his seat.

Some of Mr. Sompong’s friends offered to attack Mr. Parker, but Mr. Sompong, the suspect, declined their offer and said that he would take care of the problem himself. When Mr. Parker left the bar, Mr. Sompong drove his car, along with his friend, and followed Mr. Parker. Mr. Sompong got out of the car and started to attack Mr. Parker with his fists. However, Mr. Sompong was unable to overwhelm Mr. Parker because of his size. His friend, who was watching, then joined in the fight. He hit Mr. Parker on the head three times with a rock in a sock. Mr. Sompong and his friend were surprised to see Mr. Parker collapse to the ground. At that point, they drove away in their car.

The suspects assumed that Mr. Parker was extremely drunk. They only intended to teach him a lesson not to insult people. There were many witnesses to the fight. The two suspects confessed to the attack and will be charged according to the law. The police will inform Mr. Parker about the arrest of the two suspects and will interview him when his condition improves.
