April Fools’ Day: 50% Discount At All Pattaya Hotels

Earlier today, Pattaya Daily News played a prank on our viewers by posting an article about the 50% discount offer at all Pattaya Hotels as requested by City Mayor of Pattaya, Itthiphol Kunplome, in celebration of Songkran Festival.

April Fools’ Day is celebrated all around the world on the April 1 of every year. The day is marked by the commission of good humoured or funny jokes, hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, teachers, neighbours, work associates etc.

Pattaya Daily News would like to mark this April Fools’ Day with our viewers, who may be familiar with this day as celebrated in countries like Ireland, UK, Australia, America, Italy, France and more many. Hence, PDN posted a joke that all Pattaya hotels will give 50% discount to their customers, as requested by City of Mayor of Pattaya, Itthiphol Kunplome, in the good spirit of Songkran Festival.

April Fools’ Day is widely recognized and celebrated as a day where everyone plays all kinds of jokes and foolishness. Well-known pranks that were played in the past included these:

By Television Station: the Dutch television news reported in the 1950’s that the Tower of Pisa had fallen over. Many people who were shocked contacted the station.

By Radio Station: In 1998, local WAAF shock jocks Opie and Anthony reported that Boston mayor Thomas Menino had been killed in a car accident. The mayor was on a flight at the time of the prank. The rumour spread quickly across the city. Eventually the news station had to issue alert denying the hoax. The pair hosts were fired shortly thereafter.

By Website: in 2003, many Chinese and South Korean websites claimed that CNN reported Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, was assassinated, resulting in a 1.5% drop in the South Korean stock market.

By Newspaper: in 2010, British newspaper “The Sun” posted an article about its new “Scratch and Sniff” paper, providing a sample of plain newspaper. This led to a lot of readers sniffing the paper in an attempt to smell the scent.

In the spirit of celebrating Songkran festival or Thai’s New Year (April 13-15), City Mayor of Pattaya, Itthiphol Kunplome, has offered 50% discounts on food, accommodation and other services at all hotels in Pattaya.
