Pattaya, the 25th of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: The seminar, held at Central Festival along Pattaya’s Beach Road, was chaired by the Social Development & Human Security Minister Mr. Itsara Somchai. In support of the program, Pattaya City Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem along with the Chon-Buri Governor and various other government and private representatives attended the exhibition.

Mr. Somchai explained the governments continued efforts to stamp-out illegal human trafficking both into and out of the Kingdom, referencing the “Act of Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking” in his speech. Outlining the government’s policies as well as the strategies and measures that will be used in further stifling human trafficking, Mr. Somchai revealed a joint international cooperation initiative that had been joined by Thailand.

Along with the international agreement, stronger ties with authorities in the local region, including; Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar were laid out, something which the government believe will significantly help effectively managing the illegal trade in future.

For the benefit of the local residents in attendance, Mr. Somchai explained the varying factors involved with the continued problem of human trafficking, which included; political situations, economic stability, war/conflict, social inequality and the all too prominent sex industry.

In conclusion, Mr. Somchai asked for all forms of government, administration and the private sector to come together under the “Anti-Human Trafficking Campaign” and help prevent the continued exploitation of human resources be it man, woman or child. In relation to Pattaya, local administrators have now setup the “Prachabadee Center” to manage and provide advice or assistance to those affected by human trafficking.
