Pattaya, the 14th of February 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 6:00pm on Sunday, PDN was informed that another road collapse had occurred on the Pattaya Second Road. Deputy Mayor Ronkid Ekasing stated that the collapse was actually a minor depression on the road in front of the Bangkok Bank in North Pattaya.

At the scene reporters found the depression to be approximately 1 meter in size and indenting the road surface by at least 0.3 meters. Closer inspection of the area revealed that there was in fact a large cavity concealed underneath the road surface in the area surrounding the depression.

Municipal officers that had attended the scene cordoned off the immediate vicinity around the depression, directing traffic flow around the area. Pattaya City Construction Department has also been informed and will attempt to rectify the situation immediately so as to avoid any accidents occurring on the busy section of road.

Mr. Ronkid has stated to the press that the depression in not serious and all attempts are being made to return the traffic flow to normal as quickly as possible.

Pattaya is too in your face for a shy man such as your reporter; Its claim to fame or more correctly, notoriety is based on the sex trade. Having its origins as a major Rest and Recreation base for the American forces during the Vietnam War. Beer bars with raucous girls screaming for you to join them in the bar, assault ones’ ears from every soi (road) and even in Walking Street, which is a popular street where tourists can ogle Asian girls of all descriptions and Eastern European tarts dancing in windows. Amsterdam this is not; these girls are not regulated and therefore, their health is somewhat questionable. The cries of the girls put me in mind of a Dickensian picture wherein London doxies (prostitutes) would accost their would be clients with the refrain ‘ allo dearie want a good time’. This has to be said with a London Cockney accent to get its full garishness.
