Over 10,000 People Arrive From All Parts of Thailand to Attend the Lion‘s clubs Annual Convention The very large and extremely prestigious Convention Centre Complex, which was the “brain-child” of Thailand’s famous Dr. Panya, was one of the best venues in the Kingdom for the Annual Convention for all of the Lions Clubs of Thailand.

This scenic setting, with its spacious gardens and luxurious meeting halls, is sited a few kilometers north of Banglamung (North Pattaya), and being open to the public, it is well worth a visit, if you have never been there. The 3,000 plus Lions Club Members, who attended were very impressed with these facilities, which are often used for high level Government conferences.

District Number 310 encompasses all of the Lions Clubs in the Kingdom of Thailand, with their annual Convention being the most important event; – the next one will be held at Chantanaburi in 2007. There are six Governors for the various districts in Thailand, and this four day convention was presided over by the leading Governor, Dr. Prasert. One surprising fact that I learnt was that there are Lions Clubs that are made up solely for female members, and these are becoming increasingly popular in many areas of the country. One particularly noteworthy club is the seventy strong Lady’s Lions Club in Sakhonburi, which is an area noted for its very strong economy, boasting over 2,000 factories and a vibrant seafood industry.

Even on Saturday, the Lion’s registration desk was kept very busy, with members from distant locations, who had made a special effort to attend at least part of this large convention. Early on Saturday morning small squads from each club, marched up onto the stage holding their special Lions Club banners high, with each club being officially announced and given a rousing welcome, which included a female “cheer leading group.” There is no doubt that large well appointed convention facilities are one of the key factors in attracting conventions and the like to our city, which bring high volumes of visitors, who inject a large amount of capital into our local economy.
