Pattaya, the 17th of August 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 9:30am on the Tuesday, Colonel Nunthawut Suwanla-ong (Pattaya Police Superintendent) was notified of an attempted ATM robbery at a Bangkok Bank ATM near Soi 6/1 on Pattaya Beach Road. A team of officers were immediately dispatched to the incident to investigate.

On arrival at the scene, a four-storey building containing three separate businesses (restaurant, mini-mart & a Bangkok Bank ATM facility), police investigated to find that an attempted robbery had been made by gaining access to the Bangkok Bank ATM through the adjoining mini-mart.

Officers revealed that the offenders had broken into the mini-mart before smashing through the wall adjoining the ATM’s service room, which also gains access to the cash collection and deposit boxes at the rear of the machines.

At the scene, the offenders had left behind two carjacks , two gas cylinders, welding equipment and eight varying sized lengths of solid timber. Officers remarked that almost all the equipment was brand new or barely used.

Further investigations revealed that the offenders had been attempting to cut through the rear cash boxes with the welding equipment. Officers speculate that they must have fled following a warning alarm on the ATM which was reportedly setoff at 4:20am that morning.

The Bangkok Bank revealed that the alarm had been reset remotely after local Police attended the scene and found nothing untoward on the exterior of the building or the ATM’s themselves. Bank Management have confirmed that no money had been stolen from the machines and that only surface damage had occurred.

Investigating officers will now check local CCTV camera’s installed in the area in an attempt to apprehend the offenders.
