Pattaya, the 21st of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: The Village Committee and residents of the area around the Kao Noi Temple have presented a letter of complaint – with over 500 signatures – to the Monk’s Office over perceived financial irregularities in the temples accounts. A 50 strong contingent from the Village Committee, lead by former Navy Commander Mr. Punya Poungsawan went to the Monk’s Office in order to hand the petition to the director. The committee want an investigation to be done on the temple abbot Pra Khru Sri Preecha Korn and the financial accounts.

Mr. Poungsawan stated that although he was sad to see the local residents refusing to offer the abbot food, he admitted that there were quite obviously some financial irregularities at the temple that needed to be investigated fully. The village committee has alleged that approximately 100,000 baht was missing from the money that was donated at the “Kathin” ceremony last year, (an annual ceremony in which new robes are offered to the resident monks). Coincidentally the abbot had also just purchased himself a brand new Toyota Vigo costing in excess of 700,000 baht. Various members of the community have questioned the abbot who has refused to answer their allegations.

In addition, the committee want the Monk’s Office to stop the unfair command that was placed on monk Pra Somjit Rod-Yu that is refraining him from performing temple services. The command was placed on him after he was attacked by several other monks whilst he was having his lunch in the temple pavilion. He received several bruises to his head and body in addition to a gash on his arm caused by being hit with a spade. The monks involved in the attack had not been punished.
