KHONKEAN- April 16, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Mr.Niruth Uttha-the director of the stop drinking centre-revealed that Song Kran in Khao-Neow Rd is the first prototype of an alcohol free Song Kran festival in Thailand. There were 50,208 non-alcohol expats on Khao-Neow rd during the first few days of Song Kran. The three rules which were enforced were “No Alcohol”, “No drunk” and “No conflict.” Plus they also paid respect to each other by “Wai and Sawasdee” before they splashed water on each other.

They surveyed about 300 of the expats who had taken part in Song Karn Festival on Khao-Neow rd and 84.7% said that hadn’t drunk any alcohol and 15.3% said they had drunk alcohol before they took part. Obviously Khao-Neow rd was a very safe place for families to take part in Song Kran Festival.

This year it broke the non-alcohol festival record with 53,201 expats compared with 50,208 expats in 2011.The survey showed that 97.4% of the expats were satisfied and 82.1 % of them felt safe. The non-alcohol Song Kran will likely become the mainstream among people because it conserves the traditional ceremony.
