Aging Sattahip Pub Singer Turns To Drug Dealing

Sattahip military police arrested a former pub singer for drug dealing after an undercover sting operation. The 38-year-old man told police that no one would hire him to sing as he got older, so he resorted to selling drugs to make a living.

SATTAHIP – September 30, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]: at 3 p.m., the arrest of a former pub singer for drug dealing was announced by Pol. Lt. Col. Chainarong Jarernrak, the commissioner of Sattahip naval base; and Rear Admiral Tawee Pikulthong, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Marine Corps.

The suspect was identified as Mr. Surasee Piakul or Rang, age 38, a former singer of a well-known Sattahip pub, living at house number 182/59 Moo 10, Bang Saray, Sattahip, Chonburi.

Mr. Surasee is charged with possession of a Type-1 drug (crystal meth) for sale and distribution. Police seized 82 crystal meth tablets and 5,600 baht bank notes used by police for entrapment.

Mr. Surasee’s arrest came about after police investigated a military private who was a meth user. The private told police he had bought meth from Mr. Surasee. So the military police entrapped the suspect by making a deal to buy crystal meth. An appointment was made to deliver the drugs at a Som Tam restaurant, located at 20/1 Moo 10, Bang Saray, Sattahip, Chonburi, where Mr. Surasee was arrested.

After his arrest, Mr. Surasee confessed that he had smuggled and sold drugs in the marine camp many times, because he was able to sell the tablets to soldiers at 320-400 baht per order. Mr. Surasee said he had encountered misfortune after he got old, and no one hired him to sing at their pubs. So he became drug dealer to earn money to live.
