SAMUTPRAKARN – January 14, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 2:30 p.m., the arrest of a woman for stealing numerous expensive purses and handbags of shoppers was announced by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thatchai Hongthong, Commander, Samutprakarn province; Pol. Col. Wasan Booncharoen; Pol. Col. Nakornphat Promphan; Pol. Col. Yongyuth Decharat, Deputy Commander; Pol. Col. Sirathatkhet Kruwattanaseth, Superintendent, North Samrong police station; Pol. Lt. Col. Raksak Mekjinda, Inspector; and the detective police team.

The suspect accused of stealing property was identified as Mrs. Nualporn Thaophrom, age 32, living in Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Police seized the car she used in the thefts, a golden bronze Toyota Altis with a Bangkok license plate. Police also seized more than 30 well-known brand handbags such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Lacos, and Gucci, along with a lot of personal documents of the victims and 2 mobile phones.

The thief was arrested during her latest heist from a female shopper at the Macro department store, Srinakarin road branch, Moo 5 Tambon North Samrong, Amphur Muang, Samutprakarn province.

On January 13, the police of North Samrong police station, Samutprakarn province, were notified by the security guard of Macro department store, Srinakarin road branch, that a young woman had stolen the handbag of a customer in the department store. But she was caught by the victim and the store security guard.

The detective police team rushed to the scene and found the victim and the security guard restraining Mrs. Nualporn, who had tried to steal a violet Louis Vuitton handbag that contained 21,100 THB cash, a Titus wrist watch and many documents which belonged to the victim, Ms. Kanda Maneerat, age 35, who was standing to wait for the officers at the incident.

The victim said that she came to buy goods in the department store, and had put her handbag in the shopping cart while she was choosing products on the shelf. Then the thief pushed her shopping cart to park beside her, and acted like she was choosing products too, but when the victim wasn’t looking, the thief grabbed her handbag in the shopping cart and escaped.

After she noticed her handbag was missing, Ms. Kanda hurried to inform the security guard of the department store to have a look at the CCTV that recorded the picture.

They saw that the thief was a woman, age approximately 30, so they followed up to capture the trouble maker while she was walking to the parking lot to escape. So Ms. Kanda and the security guard restrained the thief and recovered Ms. Kanda’s stolen handbag. They then notified the police.

During an investigation of the suspect, police discovered that Ms. Nualporn lived in the Foreman condominium on Moo 6 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

So the officers went to inspect her room and found a lot of luxury lady handbags in the room, which the police seized. During questioning, Ms. Nualporn confessed that she used to be a beer bar girl and sold her sexual services in North Pattaya beach.

But as she is getting older, she now has fewer customers than in the past, she said. When she was younger, she used to sell her sexual services to tourists for the price of 2,000-3,000 THB per time.

But now at age 32, she can sell herself for only at 200-500 THB per time. But she has to feed 4 children. So Ms. Nualporn decided to rent a car to make trouble and steal handbags from shoppers. Usually she made trouble in only the Macro wholesale department store, because most of the customers are owners of retail businesses, who will bring a lot of money to buy goods.

Ms. Nualporn said she had made trouble more than 10 times in the Srinakarin branch store in Bangkapi, Ladphrao; and also at Chonburi province where she made trouble several times, too.

Ms. Nualporn said that every time that she would plan to steal purses, she would rent the car from Chonburi province, and drive to the wholesale department store like Macro. She used to go to many store branches, during which she would observe that the victims always put their handbags in the shopping carts carelessly.

Initially, the police charged Ms. Nualporn in an accusation of stealing other properties by using a vehicle, and sent her to the investigation officer, North Samrong police station, Samutprakarn, to prosecute further according to the law.

The police believe that there are many female theft victims of Mrs. Nualporn. The victims can come to inspect the recovered stolen property, and see the defendant at North Samrong police station, Tel. 02-7584925 or 02-7584936.
