Mr. Soontorn said he recognized photos of the two Chinese men as the same ones who booked him for 1200 baht to drive them to Pattaya and back to their China Town Hotel in Bangkok on the 31st of July.

As reported in PDN, two Chinese tourists stole a one Carat diamond ring, costing 230.000 baht. Their actions were recorded on CCTV. The incident occurred on Central Beach Pattaya shopping mall.

Police checked the record from the hotel and found that the two men were still booked in. They contacted the Pattaya police for the photos from the CCTV and a warrant from the court to enable arrest.

Police searched the room of the two men and found 12 pieces of fake diamonds. The two suspects, Mr. Ju Ler Dtong, [48] and Mr. Lor Jung Dter ,[32], were taken to Plubplachai 2 police station for further investigation. The two men confessed that they were in the diamond shop, but they did not steal the diamond. Ms. Siriporn, the shop owner was invited to identify the suspects, whom she recognized as they had spent some time with her before deciding to make a purchase.

The police had invited another victim to identify them. Ms. Haruthai Fang, [37] another jewelry shop owner of Akkara Jems , located in Central Department store, Ladprow branch, said the two suspects had planned to steal a ring and bracelet worth 700.000 baht by using the same trick, but only depositing 100 baht. She had reported her suspicions to the Paholyothin police station on the 2nd of July.

Pol.Lt.Col. Tanakorn told the media that although the supects denied everything, with all the evidence they assume there must be more members of a Chinese gang who have lived in Thailand for some time, making their living by being devious and stealing diamonds.

According to police information, the Chinese gang had been travelling back and forth between Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia for their visas.

On 3rd August, at 11.30 pm, Pol. Lt. Col. Chonapat Nawaluk, and his team, brought Mr. Ju Ler Dtong and Mr. Lor Jung Dter back to Pattaya along with Ms. Siriporn for a reconstruction of the incident.

At 4.30pm, on 4th August, Pol. Lt. Col. Teerapong Klaikeaw, along with two police superintendents and the Pattaya police team, revealed to the media that they had arrested the two Chinese suspects with a warrant issued by Pattaya court. The two men were found in room 411 on the 4th floor of the China Town Hotel, Yowarat road, Sampuntawong, Bangrak, Bangkok. The police are sure the suspects are the criminals and have enough evidence to charge them.

Notes:
Without the quick observations of the Pattaya taxi driver we wonder if the criminals would have been apprehended so quickly.
