A German Crashed Into A Thai Motorcycle And Was Stopped By 2 Brits As He Tried To Escape

Two British men were angry to see a German man crashing into two Thai people on a motorbike with his truck in the middle of the night in Pattaya on May 1, 2008, and then trying to escape. However, he was unable to successfully escape because his radiator over-heated. The British men managed to stop the German, but they ended up having a dispute and fighting.

At 05.00 am., Sattahip Police Investigator, Pol.Lt.Col. Rerngsak Sookjareon, Chonburi was notified that a bronze Toyota Vigo truck, with no number plate, had crashed into a black motorbike, causing serious injuries to the two riders and was trying to escape, heading along Sukhumvit road from Pattaya to Sattahip, at Km. 153.

The police duly rushed to the scene and found the Sawang Rojanatham Satan Rescue Team giving first aid to the two victims: Mr. Sirisak Wongchalee (35), a motorbike taxi driver who was in a very bad state, blood running from a large cut on his head. The other victim was Mr. Wichien Poorm (54) , a cleaner, who works for Num Heng Congrete, lying unconscious, his face and head badly injured . Police also found a Honda Wave motorbike with no plate no, which had been hit and bounced into a small water channel in the middle of the road. The two victims were rushed to the Queen Sirikit Hospital , Sattahip.

Later on, the police were notified that the Toyota pickup had been found about 2 kms. from the accident scene. The truck had broken down from a leaking radiator. The police rushed to the scene and found Mr. Lahp Hairtell(35) a German fighting with 2 Englishmen who had happened to be eye- witnesses of the accident and had followed the fleeing German, until his truck eventually broke down.

Mr. Lahp confessed that because the victims’ motorbike had had no light, he hadn’t seen it and could not stop the truck in time. After running into the motorbike, he saw two men had fallen off, but because he thought the victims were dead, he decided to escape.

Mr. Lahp will be charged with reckless driving and causing injuries.
