Pattaya, 2nd January 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: Journalists reporting from the island of Koh Srichang say that many Thai citizens and tourists have been traveling with the ferry ‘Sirracha-Koh Srichang’ from and to the island over the New Year.

It seems more and more people are chosing the island as a holiday destination for both short and long stay.  The frequency of ferry services have been increasing and hotel rooms on the island are almost fully occupied. It is expected that money spent on the island during the holiday season will generate profits exceeding 10 million baht.

Marine Officials of Navy base 6, Sirracha, Chonburi, have been strictly controlling the ferry services, ensuring every captain operates their vessel according to the regulations regarding the maximum number of passengers onboard and the number of life jackets and inspecting the boat before leaving port. If there is a violation or non compliance of the regulations the ferry operators have been warned that legal action will be taken against them.
