983 Sea Turtles Released To Celebrate The Queens Birthday

The Royal Thai Navy and celebrities joined together at the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre in Sattahip to celebrate the Queen Sirikit’s birthday and as part of the celebration to release 983 sea turtles.

SATTAHIP – August 7, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Admiral Phicharn Theeranet (Commissioner of Royal Thai Fleet) chaired the opening ceremony of blessing the picture of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on the Special Celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s 82nd Birthday on August 12, 2014. To celebrate the queen’s birthday they released Sea Turtles back in their natural habitat. Adimiral Luechai Rooddit (Commissioner of Air and Coastal Defense Command) together with Royal Thai Navy Base, film stars and singers of T.V. channel 3, 5, 7 and 9 joined in with the activity of releasing 983 sea turtles and 83,000 aquatic animals back into the sea at the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre beach, Royal Thai Navy, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Also the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre released a 15-year-old Green turtle which had been used for breeding named Catthaleeya, weighing 65 kg with a width of 76 cm and a length of 85 cm. It was micro chipped with no. 114639225A. And a 7-year-old Hawksbill sea turtle named Benjamas, weighing 27 kg with a width of 58 cm and a length of 61 cm microchip no. 114639225A was also released.

Admiral Phicharn Theeranet said that on this special occasion when everybody is happy they arranged the releasing of sea turtles back into their natural habitat in order to honour her Majesty the Queen and also to follow her vision and her remarkable aptitude of initiating the project of the Conservation of Sea Turtle Breeding. It also high lights the attention to conserve nature and the environment in accordance with the Royal Initiative of Her Majesty the Queen.
