600, 000 THB 7 – 11 Robbery was an Inside Job

Investigating officials interrogated an employee of the 7-11 branch that had recently lost 600,000 THB until he confessed to conspiring with the 2 thieves who carried out the robbery.

In the recent robbery on the 31st January 2011,of Ms Sirilak Ratana, manageress of the 7-11 branch at 1212 Pattaya – Naklua Rd., who  was attacked by 2 armed robbers, as she was walking to a bank nearby in order to deposit her business’s cash of 600,000 THB, which she was carrying in a safety jacket. Being threatened with guns she gave up her safety jacket with the 600,00 THB, with which the thieves then escaped on their motorbike. The police have been able to capture the image of one the thieves with a CCTV camera.

Pattaya 2nd February 2011 [Pattaya Daily News] At 15.30, the police were able to make progress. Police General Nantawut Suwanlaorng, Police Station Pattaya, along with Police Lieutenant Tarathep Dtupanit, Police Lieutenant Sandee Shuchet and a team of investigating officials announced ther arrest of Mr. Santaan Khamongkhon ( nickname: Kae ) 20, employee at the affected 7-11 store, who at the time of the incident, saw Mrs Sirilak being attacked and hurried to her assistance.

Mr.Santaan confessed that he had conspired with Mr. Naret Songlin ( Nickname: Dui ) 35, a construction worker, residing at 155 Moo 6 Naklua  Banglamung  Chonburi  , and Mr. Ahm ( real name, and further info. unknown ) to steal the money of the 7-11 store. On the day of the robbery, Mr. Santaan would be the one calling the thieves to update them on any movements in the store where he was working and in particular of the time at which Ms. Sirilak left the store with the money and the safety jacket. He planned the robbery to get rid of a 1,500 Baht debt he had had with Mr. Naret, and he would also share the stolen money with him. They planned  to meet up after the robbery to split the money at the residence of Mr, Naret at soi 29, Pattaya – Nagluea Rd, which is opposite the place of the robbery. Mr. Santaan however was being quarantined by the police for their investigations and they were interrogated until he had to confess.

Police General Nantawut Suwanlaorng said that after the incident, the police took Mr. Santaan to the police station for strict questioning which lasted over 2 hours, as there were still words and issues that were disputed, making Mr. Santaan look suspicious. The officials checked the sim card of Mr. Santaan and his call log and it turned out that he had phoned the thieves multiple times during the day before the incident. Mr. Santaan then confessed that he had planned the robbery with Mr. Naret and Mr. Ahm. on further investigation, it turned out that Mr. Naret and Mr. Ahm had already left the area, the officials however are still on to chasing them. The police are hoping for the 2 to surrender, as they were holding a weapon ( gun) when they escaped on their motorbike at the crime scene. Otherwise the police would have to take harsh measures as well.

If any business would like to deposit their cash at the bank but do not feel safe travelling to the bank with the amount of money, they can request a police escort you under the given number.
