Interview with Dr. Seree Wongmontha, Committee Adviser and Judge of Honour.

Q. What do you think about the contest this year?

A. Very difficult, the contestants are more beautiful than the previous year and also have a higher standard of education. In addition, the contest has become more acceptable to their families. It is not like in past years when some of their families did not even know about this contest. It is not just that ladies- of-the-second-category have become more accepted by society, but also that their families have seen it as more of a normal lifestyle. Some of contestants even said that they had been encouraged by their families to enter this contest as well. You might think that the committee had been strict on the education of the contestants. No, we have no restrictions, but the fact is the standard of the contestants has moved up by itself, little by little over the 10 years of the contest.

A. There is a rumour every year that the winner is fixed. Do you think it will happen this year?

Q. All the contestants are beautiful, but in different ways. It is highly unlikely that any single contestant will be specially favoured, or that the contest will be fixed for someone to win. Don’t talk nonsense. Everything is up to the contestants, themselves. In the next three days of joint activities, the committee will have to scrutinize the contestants in order to increase or decrease their scores. The background of the contestants is also very important. Some might have committed some offence before and will consequently be eliminated. If they have never done anything bad, they will be acceptable. Some of them could become more beautiful as judging day draws closer. But who knows? They might have a bad hair style or bad outfit that won’t suit them on the last day and that will ruin everything. There are many factors to take into account when judging the contest. All contestants can rest assured the contest will be fair and they should try to put on their best performance. They should attempt to present their best appearance, as regards complexion and looks, especially hair style. They should try on different style costumes to see what looks best on the judging day to give them the most confidence. They should not make any mistakes as the chance doesn’t come very often.
