3 monks arrested for drugs and illegal car racing

The police of Song Phi Nong police station, Suphan Buri province have arrested 3 monks from Wat Mai Phiboon Phon (or Don Ta Kerd Temple) that had consumed amphetamines and were racing pick-up trucks.

SUPHAN BURI – May 28, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol.Col. Sumeth Soonthorn (Superintendent of Song Phi Nong police station, Suphan Buri province) made a statement about the arrest of 3 monks. The police had received a complaint from Phra Khru Wisit Suwannaporn (the abbot of Wat Mai Phiboon Phon (or Don Ta Kerd Temple) who had complained that there were monks and novices who were selling and consuming drugs, therefore he sent police officers to inspect the scene at Song Phi Nong – Lat Bua Luang road. At the scene the officers found monks driving and sitting in the back of pick-up trucks and where racing against other pick-ups and motorbikes. Once they spotted the police they tried to flee the scene.
Initially, the police arrested a total of 4 defendants 3 monks and 1 layman that consisted of:
1. Phra Anukul Noiunsaeng, aged 37, who was the driver of the pick-up truck, (the monk of Wat Mai Phiboon Phon)
2. Phra Thossaporn Sathongpaen, aged 21, (the monk of Wat Mai Phiboon Phon)
3. Phra Chokchai Panyaphrai, aged 20, (the monk of Wat Mai Phiboon Phon)
4. Mr. Phlern Bucha, aged 45
Upon questioning all the defendants confessed that they had consumed amphetamines which they had bought from Mr Koong. Later the police took the 3 monks to be de-robed by Phra Khru Wisit Suwannaporn (the abbot of Wat Mai Phiboon Phon) before taking them to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law. The police charged all of the defendants with the accusation of having consumed a type 1 (amphetamines) but Phra Anukul Noiunsaeng and Mr. Phlern Bucha were also charged with 1 more accusation of consuming a type 1 (amphetamines) whilst driving.
