3.6 Billion Baht income from “Thailand Countdown 2011” events – TAT

The latest initiative from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), is to host what it's called the ‘Thailand Countdown 2011’ in 27 provinces, expecting a generated income of 3.6.billion baht.

According to TAT chief Suraphon Svetasreni, the TAT will be arranging New Year countdown events in Bangkok and 26 other provinces across the country with the themes of ‘Siam Sanook’ and ‘Sawasdee Muang Thai’, creating an atmosphere of fun for both the Thai people and foreign revelers. The celebrations will feature more than 30 different activities, including three major events at Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok, Future Park Rangsit in Pathum Thani, and UD Town in Udon Thani costing 15 million baht.

According to Mr. Suraphon, about 1.3 million foreigners are expected for the month of December, and the total income from the festivities should be around 3.6 billion baht, that’s about 5% higher than last year.
