2nd Russian tourist dies from Thursday fire at Bangkok hotel

BANGKOK, March 10 - A second foreign tourist, a Russian man, died from Thurday night's fire at Grand Park Avenue Hotel Sukhumvit Soi 22, according to the capital's Kluaynamthai Hospital.

Mr Asato Igor Badera’s death on Saturday morning was believed to result from smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen to the brain. His body was sent for autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine Police General Hospital.

Two foreigners, a male and a female, injured and under care at Chulalongkorn Hospital are in improved conditions. According to the hospital, the female’s condition has returned to normal and she left the hospital, while the other male was conscious but still in need of a respirator.

Bangkok City Hall is to inspect whether the hotel was illegally modified, and if this was the reason why the fire started. Over twenty people, both Thais and foreigners, were injured during the blaze.
