Pattaya, Thursday 18th March 2010: These vital conferences have been going on for 25-years and the main subject for discussion generally centred around the civil unrest between the borders of these two neighboring countries. After more than an hour of private discussions, the two leaders signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” between their two nations.

The leader for the Thai committee was General Songkitti Jaggabatara, and together with this eleven man team, they outlined the progress over the years, in spite of ongoing political tensions. The endorsement for organizing the joint committee into a cohesive working group had yielded good progress that has benefited both Thailand and Malaysia. Furthermore, having the defence forces of both nations working together along their common land and sea borders has been very beneficial, and even extends to the exchange of intelligence information.

The nine man Malaysian team was very ably represented by their “Chief of Defence,” General Tan Sri Dato’Sri Azizan, who endorsed the comments made by Thai General Songkitti Jaggabatara. In an exclusive private interview with a PDN editor, the “Chief of Defence” stated “Guerilla tactics used along the border between our two countries were very difficult to control, so instead we are using a policy of education to win over all concerned. There were a lot of misunderstandings through ignorance and lack of knowledge, so educating people of the damaging effects of armed conflicts was a good policy.

Likewise, in another exclusive interview we were told by a senior Thai Government official, that there policy of winning the hearts & minds of the people was bringing results. While this may echo of a “George W. Bush policy” it is obvious that befriending & educating both Thais & Malaysians, will show them that in wars there are no complete winners
