2 Russian Men Arrested With Counterfeited ATM Cards

The police have arrested 2 Russian men that used counterfeited ATM cards to withdraw cash from ATM machines in Pattaya city. They wound withdraw around 100,000 THB per day.

CHONBURI – February 12, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.00 p.m. at Chonburi Provincial Division, Pol.Maj.Gen. Katcha Thartsart (Commander of Chonburi Provincial police station) together with Pol.Col. Supphachai Phuikaewkham (Superintendent of Pattaya city police station), Pol. Col. Thitawat Suriyachai and Pol.Lt.Col. Chitdecha Songhong (Deputy Superintendent of Chonburi Provincial police station) made a statement about the arrest of Mr. Dennis Gonsharov, aged 26 and Mr. Ilya Ungriv, aged 27, both Russian nationality. They were caught using fake electronic ATM cards to withdraw money from ATM machines. The officers arrested them with 202 fake ATM electronic cards, 1 skimmer brand MSR206u, 1 notebook computer and 18,000 THB.

On February 10, 2014 at 8.00 p.m. the police were notified from the officers of Kasikorn Thai bank that there were 2 foreign men who were using fake electronic cards to withdraw money from ATM machines in the area of Pattaya city, therefore the police went to inspect the CCTV footage in order ID the 2 suspects. At 11.00 p.m. on the same at the Family Mart shop, Soi Bua Khao crossing with Soi Diana, the officers saw the 2 suspects withdrawing money from an ATM machine repeatedly and they were wearing baseball caps to conceal their faces. The police were certain that they were the 2 fraudsters and arrested both of them.

Upon questioning the 2 defendants they told police that they had been in Thailand since February 9, 2014 and withdrew money on February 10, 2014 and they had withdrawn money 51 times within that day. The total amount was over 100,000 THB and some of the money had been transferred to Russia. They confessed that they installed a skimmer and a hidden camera at some ATM machines in Russia in order to see the passwords of people then copied the information onto counterfeit cards which they then brought to Thailand. If they were not arrested they would of gotten away with many millions of THB.

Initially, the police charged the 2 Russian defendants with the allegation of counterfeiting electronic cards and will investigate further to magnify the outcomes in order to arrest the other members of this gang both in Thailand and in Russia.
