2 Romanians Arrested For Using Counterfeit Credit Cards

The Fast Moving Officers of Division 5 police have arrested 2 Romanian thieves who are members of a Russian counterfeiting credit card gang. They were arrested with 795 fake ATM cards.

BANGKOK – April 8, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 10.00 p.m., at Lumpini police station, Pol.Maj.Gen. Suebsak Phansura (Commander, Division 5) together with Pol.Col. Chaiya Khongsap (Superintendent of Lumpini police station), Pol.Lt.Col. Theekayu Renarngkul (Inspector of Phra Khanong police station) and Head of The Fast Moving Officers of Division 5,and the Fast Moving Officers of Division 5 and the detective police team of Lumpini police station together made a statement about the arrest of Mr. Felsic Alexandru, aged 26, Romanian nationality and Mr. Ilisse Gorgy Zerkai, aged 33, Romanian nationality, in the allegations of using fake ATM cards. They were arrested with 795 fake ATM cards, 1 skimmer, 1 handbag and 8 fake ATM cards (which they already have the passwords) at the side of Duang Phithak Road, beside the tobacco factory in Khlong Toey Sub-district, Khlong Toey District.

Upon investigating the 2 defendants, they confessed that they were hired to withdraw money from ATMs using the fake cards. The ATM cards’ data was collected from banks. They then told police that they made an appointment with their Russian friends to pick up the fake ATM cards from a hotel and they were paid 500 Euros per day. They claimed that they had just arrived in Thailand on April 7, 2014 and they had not begun to use the fake ATM cards but the police still didn’t believe them.

Pol.Maj.Gen. Suebsak continued to say that the officers had coordinated with the officers of controlling and protection for peculation (fraud) of Siam Commercial bank, who are credit card experts. They inspected all the cards and found that there were 364 cards that had customers’ data and 431empty cards (without any data). If the 2 defendants could withdraw money from all cards successfully, the total damage will be worth approximately 100 million THB.

Initially, the officers charged the 2 defendants with the allegations of having fake electronic cards, equipment or materials to use or to get data for counterfeiting fake electronic cards. Then the police sent the 2 Romanian defendants to the investigation officer to be prosecuted. However, the police will coordinate with the officers of Economic Crime Suppression Division in order to investigate further to magnify the outcomes to follow up and arrest the head of this network to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law.
