2 Million Baht Atm Theft Arrested In Pattaya

An ATM controller, from Krung Thai Bank Sub-Company, had stolen more than 2 million baht from Krung Thai ATM machine in Pisanuloke province. The suspect had fled away to hide in Pattaya and spent about 1.2 million baht to entertain friends and girls. Police arrested the wrongdoer with the evidence of an ATM box and the money.

At 05.00, on August 26th, 2008, Pol.Col.Nopadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent, had been cooperated with police from Pisanuloke province to search for Mr. Kanin Puengsiri or nickname “Pae”, from Pisaunloke province, a staff member of Krung Thai Business Service Company Ltd, a sub-company of Krung Thai bank.

According to the report from Pitsanuloke police, Mr. Kanin, the suspect, had used a spare key to open the ATM machine, which was installed in Patumthong Shopping Center, Pisanuloke, and took ATM moneybox, No. 40287, with 2,258,000 Baht inside. Police brought an arrest warrant No. 207/2551 from Pisanuloke court to arrest Mr. Kanin, which they were informed that Mr. Kanin was hiding in Pattaya.

Subsequently, police had detected that Mr. Kanin was hiding in a bungalow around Jomtien area. Pol.Lt.Col.Supachaj Piem-manus, deputy-suppressing superintendent, Pol.Lt.Col.Chartchai Ruen-thawin, deputy investigating superintendent and police team immediately searched for the suspect’s hiding place and found Mr. Kanin was renting a room No. 1, at Jomtien Chalet Bangalow, Moo 1, Na-jomtien, Sattahip, Chonburi.

Pattaya police, with the arrest warrant, had arrested Mr. Kanin while he was sleeping in the bungalow with his friend, Mr. Note (Alias), (20). Police confiscated the evidence of an ATM box and the money in the box of 1,015,000 Baht.

 

Mr. Kanin confessed that he was working for 3 years at Krung Thai Business Service Company Ltd. In the night on August 15th, 2008, he used the key to open the ATM machine and had stolen the moneybox, which had 2,258,000 Baht in it. He was hiding in Pisanaloke for a while then came to Pattaya with friends. During his 15 days escape, he had spent around 1,243,000 Baht for food , accommodation and entertained himself with friends and girls at Hi-Lo pub in Pattaya.

Mr. Kanin, who came from quite a well off family, said, he did not have any other motive of stealing the money. He just wanted to spend the money for his own entertainment and had a good time with his friends. However, police had made the record before handed Mr. Kanin over to Pisaluoke police to process the case by law.
