Pattaya, 12 December 2010 (PDN): At 9.00 pm Pattaya Police Investigator Lieutenant Colonel Preecha Samrit was informed that a mother and her 12-year-old son had been killed when their motorbike was hit by a 10 wheel truck in a hit and run accident on the south bound section of the Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya. Police and the Sawang Boriboon Foundation were dispatched to the Caltex petrol station, Moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung.

At the scene, several witnesses had gathered close to the mangled wreckage of  a blue Suzuki Swing motorbike. Nearby lay the two bodies of the deceased. Mrs. Benjamat Yu-sabai [33] was lying face down, wearing a red T-shirt and black jeans. The left side of her skull had been crushed exposing the brain matter. Close by was her son, 12-year-old Master Base, with multiple injuries to the arms, legs and stomach, and whose whole body bore the impression of the truck’s tyre. A third passenger on the motorbike, Master Base’s twin brother, had been seriously injured and taken to the  Banglamung Hospital for treatment before the officers arrived.

A witness, Mr. Mana Phanit [34] from Banglamung, told police that as he was leaving the petrol station, he saw a blue and white Isuzu 10 wheel truck (Reg. no. 84-1522 Chon Buri) collide with a motorbike carrying a woman and two children. All three were knocked down. Instead of stopping, the truck ran over the bike and the bodies of the passengers and then drove away.

Subsequently, officers had successfully apprehended the the driver of the truck, Mr. Weeraphong Phokchalad [24] from Surin, who was in an intoxicated state, together with the 10 wheel-truck which belonged to S.J. Ltd., a company situated approximately 3 km from the scene of the accident.

Mr. Phokchalad was arrested and taken into custody and can expect to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
