“Worlds Biggest Burger” Battle

World Biggest Burger Eating Competition was held on Saturday, 5th August 2006, at 12.00 hours, in 1st floor of Careflour. The opening ceremony was really extraordinary with the World Biggest burger weighing 35.6 kg.

               Mr. Ronnakij Ekkasit, Vice Pattaya City Mayor, was the Honored Chairman for the cutting of this World Biggest Burger. He was accompanied by Mr. Bob Schindler, Manager and Owner of Bob’s BBQ & Grill, together with Mr. Michael Richard, Manager of Careflour Department Stall and Mr. Niels Colov, local newspaper Editor.

               The public was very interested in the competition and many adults and children Thai and foreigner had taken part. There were altogether 13 competitors. Before the competition commences there was a performance from Children Foundation, and presentation of items to the children and Mr. Ronakij was also presented with a certificate.

               After a long wait, finally there was a sound of count down and all the people who took part in the competition start to eat the life out of them to win the game. Some were sitting and some standing but they were all biting away. After 14.13 minutes there was a loud cheer from on lookers, for Mr. Gavin Ireland, who came from Northern Ireland, he looks very happy and flip up his shirt for everyone to see his belly. The spectators have to hold their breath a while more to see who will receive the next cheer. Unexpectedly one of the competitors threw out a big pile of burger. After 30.40 minutes a winner was found and it was Mr. Sutthichai Sonthong, a merchant at Royal Garden Shopping Center. Mr. Sutthichai has a girlfriend who works in Bob’s BBQ & Grill, he has practiced eaten bulk of burgers for several months now. Later the last winner was announced with timing at 37.30 minutes, a Thai working man, aged 22, Mr. Teerasak Thongsook.

               It was a very fun fills day for all the cheering team and those passer by they had all enjoyed and excited about the battle. Some of the competitors might be afraid of burger for the rest of their life. As the size of burger that they had to eat were 1.5 kg piece. This competition was recorded in Guinness Book of Record and the news about this competition was publicized widely on the internet.

               The purpose of this competition was to add colour to Tourism of Pattaya City. It was also aim to retaliate to the Government’s Tourism Plan, as well as to build good image of Pattaya City and to publicize the city to local and foreign visitors letting them more about Pattaya. It was also aim to attract and increase number of tourist in Pattaya. Lastly, it was to celebrate, His Majesty the King, 60 years ascension to the Throne.
