PATTAYA – August 20, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 3 a.m., an arrest of a grocery vendor for drug dealing was announced by Pol. Maj. Seksan Reuvej, Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province, and the police team.

The suspect was identified as Mrs. Sap Janthong, age 56, a vendor of a grocery store at 214/5 Soi Jularat, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

Police restrained Mrs. Sap at the Pattaya police station and seized the evidence of one amphetamine tablet. Police said they had been investigating Mrs. Sap, who was suspected of selling smuggled amphetamine pills to customers at her soi Jularat store.

Police set up a drug sting and arranged to purchase 1 tablet of amphetamine from Mrs. Sap. She sold the pill to the undercover agent for 220 THB. The agent sent the signal to the police to arrest her.

During questioning, Mrs. Sap said she had operated her grocery store for a long time, and she is also seriously ill with a severe disease. She claimed that she bought the amphetamine pills from a “Mr. Kai” mainly to consume for herself. She paid him 200 THB per tablet.

But when her customers asked to buy amphetamine pills, she would re-sell the pills, but only made a little profit on each sale. She never thought she would be arrested by the police.

However, the police didn’t believe Mrs. Sap’s claims about buying the pills for her own use. Police officers thought she seemed too old to be consuming amphetamines.

Police suspected that Mrs. Sap had been illegally selling amphetamine for a long time. They charged her with an initial accusation of possession of a “Type 1” drug (amphetamine), and sent her to the investigation officer to prosecute further according to the law.
